From IFC's First Equity Investment to the Creation of AMC: A Legacy of Innovation

1962

IFC’s first equity investment
$500,000 stake in Spanish auto parts manufacturer Fabrica Esponia Magnetos

1981

Coined the term Emerging Markets (EM) and established the EM Database—the basis for the world’s first EM stock index (IFC Investible Index), which was sold to Standard and Poor’s in 1999.

1984

IFC launches the first publicly traded emerging markets country fund, the NYSE-listed Korea fund.

1987

Structured and underwrote the first global emerging markets equity fund, which led to the development of the MSCI EM Index.

2000

Established the IFC Private Equity Funds Group.

2004

Oversaw the creation of the Emerging Market Private Equity Association (EMPEA), now known as the Global Private Capital Association (GPCA).

2009

Created AMC to expand private capital availability beyond IFC’s balance sheet and meet growing demand for equity in global emerging markets.
